Google launches new operating system Fuchsia

It was in 2016 when, for the first time, we became aware of Fuchsia , a new operating system that Google has been working on ever since. Already at that time it was known that it would be a new OS easily applicable for smartphones, smart watches and even computers, as well as other electronic devices such as virtual reality or headphones.

Now, after so many years of development, Fuchsia has officially arrived for Google’s Nest Hub , the home automation device with a screen officially launched in 2018, with the implementation of version 1.0 .

Until now, this peculiar device ran on Cast OS, an operating system that is based on a Linux kernel, something that would not happen with the new Fuchsia. Interestingly, after the update the user will not notice differences when switching to this new operating system , which means that the user experience should be the same, although with some details.

In any case, we would be facing a technical update that would be of great importance for Google.

Fuchsia won’t replace Android

Although at first it is normal to think that Fuchsia could become the operating system to replace the current Android, the reality is very different: at least for now, it is not intended to replace Android, or even Chrome OS .

However, it has been known that the Mountain View firm has already managed to test it successfully on different smartphones and Chromebooks, but without going much further. In fact, it seems that Google has the initial approach of limiting it to home automation devices . And it is that, as the company has explained, “the main objective is to facilitate its development and, above all, to provide more security to the user”.

Of course, for now we do not know if this new operating system will reach other terminals and home automation devices, or even other terminals. But, knowing the company’s experience, it would not be unreasonable or surprising to see in the future new products developed and marketed by Google that run this new operating system.

However, despite all this, and especially after so many years of development, there is no doubt that it is an important week for the company. And it is that not every day a new operating system is presented and launched …
