Google Pixel Buds A: Google's Upcoming Wireless Headphones

At the end of March we learned that Google was working on a new pair of wireless headphones , much more accessible than its previous Pixels, this time baptized with the official name of Google Pixel Buds A.

Since then, the manufacturer has already confirmed the existence of these headphones by revealing different images on one of its sites. What’s more, a few weeks ago the company revealed some photographs by mistake, in an advertising email sent to all subscribers of the Google Nest newsletter (the voice assistant).

In that email, the subscribers to the aforementioned newsletter were surprised to discover in their mailbox an image of the Pixel Buds in dark green (olive). And although the name of the headphones was not clearly indicated, several sources suggest that it would be the new Pixel Buds A.

The charging case would match the color of the wireless earbuds

The mistaken publication of that image would show us not only a new color that does not exist in the current range of headphones at the moment, but also indicates that the interior of the charging case would match the color of the headphones . Something that does not currently happen with the Pixels Buds available in stores.

Regarding their design, and according to what we have seen so far, it is evident that the new Pixels Buds A look very similar to the previous Pixel Buds 2. Although we would find a notable difference: the second indicator light , located inside the case, it would not be visible, at least in the image, so we do not know if the manufacturer has removed it or if it is simply not part of the photograph.

What are their characteristics?

A few days ago the site ‘9to5Google’ was able to discover the latest update of the Pixel buds app, which was originally published under the number 1.0.367372739. This site was able to decompile the APK file to discover certain elements present in the app, specifically those related to the future Google Pixel Buds A.

Among the findings, the site was able to identify some elements associated with future wireless headphones (belonging to a model called “type_two”), when the original Pixels Buds have been identified in the app under the name “type_one”.

No volume change

This update includes references to the management of touch controls to move forward or backward. As a reminder, on previous Pixel Buds a swipe of the finger back or forward on the earpiece offered the ability to lower or raise the volume, respectively.

However, as is currently the case with most wireless headphones, it seems that now the volume management would not be done in the headphones directly , but through our phone.

No charging LED?

Another distinguishable element is the charging LED . By opening the case, the user can discover the charge level of the headphones based on the color of the LED that appears. However, it seems that in the new Pixels Buds A this feature would no longer be available.

And it would be, it is true, an element that would be corroborated by the images published so far.

When could they go on sale?

At the moment it is not entirely clear when Google would plan to officially present its new wireless headphones, when they would go on sale and, above all, at what price.

However, given that we are apparently facing reduced characteristics, together with the appearance of the suffix “A” in the name of the product, it would be expected that they were a cheaper version than the classic Pixel Buds , which were originally launched at a price from 199 euros.
