Here's how NFTs are coming to games like FIFA very soon

NFTs (non-tangible tokens, as translated into Spanish) are already beginning to become an important part of the future of the video game industry, and important developer firms such as Ubisoft are beginning to work in a line that includes this type of Asset based on blockchain technology in securities that will be released in the near future.

The CEO of the famous sports video game company EA Sports, Andrew Wilson, said just a few days ago that EA sports franchises, such as the successful and well-known FIFA , and the American football series Madden are the main candidates for the introduction of these digital collectibles based on the logic of cryptocurrencies.

Cryptocurrencies are coming to video games

From EA, they assure that the players who buy their titles want to have more game modalities within the game that, in titles like FIFA, go much further than the traditional 11 against 11 football. They affirm that the players (especially the older generations young people) want to have more digital experiences outside of the game and more oriented to electronic sports (or e-sports , as they are known in Internet lingo). It is for this reason that they believe that the introduction of NFT in video games will bring a much wider sports consumption, although they also recognize that they themselves, as developers, will also have to adapt and dominate a market that is still undone.

Tokens are here to stay

NFTs, unique tokens that can be used to prove ownership of a digital asset, have already become an important part of the sports industries and the world of collectors. In October, Paris-based NFT platform Sorare became the most valuable startup in France, raising € 580 million in just one round of funding for its digital football business card business.

The cards offered are officially licensed, and major European clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Liverpool of the Premier League have signed up on the platform. The data and statements made by various EA officials since then suggest that the virtual entertainment giant, and one of the world’s largest video game publishers, is well aware of the commercial potential of tokens.

The ability to collect these types of tokens in games like FIFA, Madden, and NHL is really about driving value throughout the normal sports season. From EA they are very clear that there is an opportunity, especially when we think about NFTs and other digital ecosystems to expand that market value in a very short period of time. However, the combination of NFT and video games divides public opinion.

Just a few weeks ago, the PC gaming platform Steam banned absolutely all blockchain and NFT related games from its store.
