TikTok is an application for making and sharing very short videos. Videos are displayed vertically and you can navigate through them by scrolling up and down, like a feed, without tapping or swiping from side to side.
In China, TikTok is known as Douyin ; is the precursor to the TikTok app, which was launched by ByteDance, the world’s most valuable startup , in 2016. TikTok made its official overseas debut in 2018 when it merged with Musical.ly.
Like any other social network, TikTok has a range of influencers and meme machines that take advantage of views, likes, comments, shares, and virtual currencies. There are tons of TikTok stars who count their followers in the tens of millions, most without being famous or mainstream celebrities.
TikTok’s success stems from its algorithm, which uses artificial intelligence to make personalized recommendations for viewers . The video feed plays the moment the app is opened, instantly engaging users. They can follow their favorite creators, but they don’t have to for the feed to automatically fill with selected clips.
TikTok makes content discovery central to the user experience, which is precisely what makes videos so viral. And many of them are because of the effects incorporated into it.
How to add effects on TikTok
To place effects on TikTok videos, you just have to go to the same video creation screen and choose between the different effects that are shown (whose base effects are many). The idea is to test each of the effects and choose the one you like the most or to test each one of them in your videos.
In essence, when you record a video on TikTok with your mobile camera, there are two different ways to add effects, one before recording and one after recording. Yes indeed; the available effects are different in each case.
To record a video and apply effects beforehand, so they can be viewed in real time as you record, all you have to do is:
- Open the app.
- Press the + button at the bottom of the screen to go to the camera.
- In the lower left corner, click Effects.
- Choose an effect from all the available options. There are filters of cats and dogs, gay pride, seasonal effects for Christmas, fashion, the freeze frame …
- select the one you want to apply
- Record the video
However, if you want to apply effects to a pre-recorded video, the steps are slightly different:
- Access the application.
- Go to the camera by pressing + at the bottom of the screen.
- Record the video
- In the preview window, in the lower left corner, you will see Special Effects. You will also find filters and stickers.
- Choose between filter or time effects at the bottom.
- Now you must keep the effect pressed in the options carousel. The video will play until you lift your finger, indicating that the application stops applying the effect. Then you can add another new effect to the remaining parts of the video. You can combine as many effects as you want.
- When you’re ready, tap Save in the lower right corner to save the effects applied to the video.
- Press Next in the lower right corner, write the title that accompanies the video and post it as you normally would.
The video will come out with all the effects you have added.
