Although it is still possible to continue storing data and files on CD or DVD discs, this type of drive has fallen into disuse, especially in replacement of other more comfortable options and even greater capacity, such as cloud storage, discs laptop hard drives or USB sticks.
However, when it comes to burning and preserving an ISO file , often referred to as an ISO image , we may wonder whether or not it is possible to store it on a USB drive.
We must bear in mind that an ISO file basically consists of a file that is characterized by being a perfect representation of a complete CD, DVD or BD (BluRay Disc). Thus, all your content can be accurately duplicated in a single ISO file.
But this type of file is so particular that it is not enough to copy it: it must be burned. Afterwards, it is necessary to boot the system from the USB drive, which can end up increasing the complexity of the process enormously, especially if we do not have much experience.
Burning an ISO file to USB with Rufus
With the curious name of Rufus we find a free tool that is responsible for preparing the USB drive to automatically extract the content present in the ISO file, and will copy it to the device, including the files necessary to start the Unit.
To start the process, we first need to download Rufus . Then, we double click on the downloaded file, and the program will start immediately. Now we insert the USB device into the computer (if we have not done it yet).
In the Device drop-down menu, which we will find located at the top of the aforementioned program, we choose the USB storage device in which we want to burn the ISO file. We now select the Disc or ISO image option from the drop-down menu. We choose Select and we look for and select the ISO image that we want to burn; Next, we press Open so that the file is loaded into Rufus.
In the Image Options area we must choose the Standard Windows installation option. Then, we can introduce a custom volume label, and within the section Show advanced formatting options, we can leave everything in its default state.
We select the Start option, which will start the recording of the ISO file on the USB device that we have chosen previously. Now we wait while the program correctly formats the USB drive.
Once the status information at the bottom of the program window indicates READY, it will be possible to close the application and properly remove the USB drive.
Now we will only have to boot the system from a USB device. To do this, it will be necessary to change the BIOS boot order, so that the USB device option appears in the first position.
