How to easily refresh a page in your browser

Nowadays, many digital media, such as newspapers and magazines published on the Internet, have an extremely useful functionality for most of their readers, which consists of the automatic update of the main page (where we can see the headlines of the main news), each time some new information is introduced, or a change is made.

There is no doubt that this provides many advantages to the user, since they will always be constantly informed with the latest news or information published by the medium, without the need to constantly update the page.

We can put a simple example. Imagine that you are waiting to know the latest statistics related to the coronavirus in our country. Although every afternoon it is possible to know the volume of infections and deaths in the last 24 hours, it is not always known at the same time. Therefore, if we are in front of a digital medium with the automatic update function activated, if you insert a notice as a last minute in the header or make a publication with this information, we will be able to quickly access it because the page will be updated immediately.

But sometimes we need to access the latest version of the information on that particular page, and we need to do it manually. Or, even, the page we are on is shown with errors, something that usually happens when a certain website does not load completely. In these cases, it is perfectly possible to update the browser page manually . We explain how.

Updating a page from the computer

The process is as straightforward as it is simple. And it is that absolutely all web browsers have buttons that include icons with a similar or similar design, in order to make their use as intuitive as possible. This is what happens, for example, with the page refresh button that we find in common browsers such as Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

If we are not on the page we want to update (it is possible that we have activated the browser cache, so in some cases the system will load a previous, non-current version of the page), we only have to go to the circular icon in the shape of arrow that we will find located at the top of the browser window, generally located next to the address bar, and click on it . We will see how, after clicking on this button, the page in question will reload again.

It is also possible to use a keyboard shortcut . To do this, you just have to press the F5 key , although on some Windows computers we may have to hold down the Fn and F5 keys at the same time. However, in case it is still not possible to achieve it, sometimes we must also press Ctrl and R at the same time.

In macOS, for example, it is possible to refresh the page we are on with the help of the keyboard, pressing Command and R at the same time.

And on the mobile phone?

In the mobile phone browser the process is just as straightforward and simple. In fact, we will also find a button similar to that of the desktop browser in the app. And we will find it located next to the URL address bar . If it does not appear, we may have to click at the top of the main menu to display a drop-down menu. Then, the button to update the web will appear. This usually works in both Chrome and Firefox.

However, in Safari the most common is that the Update button appears right next to the address bar, but it will not appear automatically until the web has fully loaded (in the meantime, an icon shaped like ‘ X ‘, useful for stopping the page loading).
