If you use iPhone, iPad or Mac it is quite possible that you already know that the Messages application offers us the possibility of communicating with friends, family and co-workers who also use other Apple devices.
We could define it as Apple’s instant messaging application , although it is true that it is not an app that has succeeded precisely with this functionality, at least in our country, where the use of other more general and popular applications is more common, such as WhatsApp or recently Telegram.
In any case, with the Messages for Mac app, for example, it is perfectly possible to send unlimited messages to any Apple device , which includes not only other Macs, but also iPhone, iPad or even iPod Touch.
Of course, if we use an iPhone, we can also send and receive text messages , like those we used to receive on our mobile phone when there was no instant messaging application available for these types of devices.
Although configuring and using this app is as simple as it is simple, as we explained to you a while ago in the article How to easily configure Messages on iOS and Mac, sometimes it may not work as well as we would like. What can we do to fix the application, especially when it doesn’t work on Mac?
Making sure the Mac has an Internet connection
In order for the Messages application to function properly, an Internet connection is necessary , regardless of what type it is (that is, it works equally well with both Ethernet and WiFi), but it must be an active and working connection .
Therefore, we must first make sure that the Mac is connected to the Internet. And that, in addition, that connection works correctly, there is no type of incident or problem.
Restart the Mac
In many cases, one of the most common problems with Messages is a text message that is not sent, or cannot be found. Sometimes restarting the Mac fixes the problem .
To do so, you just have to go to the Apple Start Menu , click on the Apple logo , and click on the Restart button. If necessary, we must follow the instructions on the screen to force the closing of the applications.
The Mac will restart automatically. Now, we simply have to log in just when we see the home screen.
Clear the message cache
Sometimes it is enough to clear the message cache . Of course, as far as Messages are concerned, we must bear in mind that, in this application, the cache is our message history, so if we delete the cache we will lose the chats on all devices .
Therefore, the only available option would be to delete the chat within Messages, by clicking on the ‘X’ icon that we will find located to the right of a profile image when we scroll over a certain chat.
However, if you want a more complete option, you can try deleting the cache in Finder .
Luckily, in most cases it will only be enough to perform some of the steps indicated above. It will not even be necessary to reach this last section.
