Mozilla Firefox add-ons with programs that we can easily install in order to change the functionality of the browser . They would be similar to the popular Google Chrome extensions , and among other interesting aspects, they are useful for modifying the existing behavior in Firefox, correcting errors, adding some additional functionality, increasing its security or adding new functions.
In fact, such was the popularity of Google Chrome with the launch of its official extensions website that Mozilla began to use the words ‘add-ons’ and ‘extensions’ in a common way, even referring to its add-ons as extensions. Although if you use this browser regularly, it is quite likely that you know that, at least in the application, it still refers to them as extensions .
If you want to inquire about the different extensions available at this moment, browsing the most recommended or the most valued ones, you can do so simply by accessing the official Add-Ons page that Mozilla has designed especially for this purpose. What’s more, on this page you can not only find extensions, but also other interesting plugins, such as themes, dictionaries, and language packs.
But if we no longer want to continue using a certain extension, the browser offers us two possibilities: disable them or eliminate them . Choosing one option or another will depend on what we want to do with it. Thus, for example, if we plan to pause it to use it again in the future, we could simply disable it. But if it has given us problems, or we are simply not going to use it anymore, then the most appropriate step is to eliminate it.
Disabling extensions in Mozilla Firefox
Disabling an extension in Mozilla Firefox offers us the possibility of deactivating it, but it will not remove it. In this way, it becomes an ideal option if you plan to use it again soon.
If what you want is to deactivate a certain extension, instead of deleting it, you can do it easily. You just have to go to the browser menu (the button with three horizontal lines), and click on it. Once you do this, click on Add- ons and then select the Extensions button.
From that moment on we will be shown a list with the extensions that we have at that moment installed in Mozilla Firefox. To know which ones are active and which ones are not, we simply have to look at the icon as a lever that is shown just with the name of the extension. If it is presented in blue, it means that that specific extension is enabled and active. However, if it is displayed in gray, it is not active.
Therefore, you just have to go to the extension that you want to stop using, and click on the blue lever, which will turn gray . Once this is done, this add-on will be inactive, but it will not have been removed.
Removing extensions in Mozilla Firefox
On the contrary, if what you prefer is to delete an extension in Mozilla Firefox because you do not want or do not plan to use it anymore, then the process to follow is similar to the one we use to disable it.
The only thing that we must direct them to the extension that we want to delete, and instead of clicking on the gray or blue lever, we open the drop-down menu that will appear once we click on the icon of the three vertical dots that appears on the right. Click on the Delete button, and the browser will delete the extension instantly.
However, remember that if at any time you want to recover an extension that you have previously deleted or deleted, you just have to go to the official Mozilla Firefox Add-ons page, find it and reinstall it again.
