It is evident that behind are those times when the web browser only served to visit different pages or websites. And it is that with the arrival of new browsers such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, so did the launch of new and interesting features, such as extensions .
In Google Chrome, for example, extensions are programs that can be installed in the browser in order to change its functionality . This includes adding new functions, or modifying the existing behavior of the program itself to customize it to the maximum.
Today we can find hundreds of thousands of extensions. Some may offer us the ability to block ads so that they are not displayed, manage passwords, optimize memory use so that the browser runs more efficiently, facilitate the copying of text from a certain website, add to-do lists or protect our privacy, among others.
However, although most of the extensions of both Chrome and Firefox report many benefits to users, it is true that, in some cases, we could find ourselves faced with particular extensions that modify the behavior of the browser, but in a negative way.
A good example is found in a malicious extension known by the name of Search-NewTab, which can affect normal browsing while browsing the web by causing continuous redirects or constantly displaying uncomfortable pop-up advertisements (pop-up windows). Therefore, in what way is it possible to remove extensions in Chrome? We explain it to you step by step.
Removing extensions easily in Google Chrome
The process to follow is extremely straightforward and simple. You just have to click on the button with vertically designed dots that you will find located in the upper right part of the browser, which will open a drop-down menu. Then, click on More tools , and then on Extensions .
Doing so will open a new tab called ‘Extensions’, in which all the extensions installed in Chrome at that moment will be shown. Those that are shown with the sliding button in blue will be the ones that are active, while if the sliding button is shown in gray they will be deactivated.
To eliminate the one that we want to avoid, we only have to click on the Remove button, and the browser will ask us if we want to eliminate said extension. To confirm it, we simply click on the Remove button again, and the extension will disappear completely.
What’s more, in case you consider that the extension has acted maliciously, it is possible to check the box Report inappropriate use , which will inform Chrome developers about it.
