If you are a Windows 10 user, and you used to use the one known as Home Group with the rest of the devices and computers connected to the same network, you may already know that Microsoft decided to eliminate this very interesting functionality in one of its updates.
In this operating system, HomeGroup option will become a simple role in simplifying the process of sharing different resources on a small network with other users who also utilize Windows 10 and were connected to it. All this without having to be a network expert.
But since Microsoft decided to remove this feature, it is clear that users must now use other methods when sharing printers, folders, and files .
On a previous occasion, we knew the steps we should follow when creating a local network in Windows 10 , the only option available to continue taking advantage of some of the functionalities that the Home Group provided us before its disappearance.
But, how can we continue to share files between different computers with Windows 10, if we no longer have the HomeGroup functionality?
Sharing files in Windows 10
When it comes to sharing both files and folders with other users, Windows 10 offers us different ways, including the File Explorer settings (more advanced settings), the Share function or the OneDrive service itself.
Sending files using Share
If you need to share one or more files with another user within the home network or in the office, it is possible to use the Share option, which we find integrated into the File Explorer and also in a good number of different applications.
To use this option, it is necessary to open the File Explorer , find the folder with the files that we want to share and access it, select the files and click on the Share tab.
Once this is done, we select the contact, device or application with whom we want to share the files, and we continue with the instructions that will appear on the screen.
Share files with File Explorer
In case we need to share different files on our local network, it is possible to do so using the advanced options for sharing files and folders that we will find in the File Explorer .
When creating a shared folder , it is necessary to open the File Explorer , find the folder that contains the content we want to share, right-click on it, and select the option Give access to , then clicking on the Specific people section.
Now we just have to use the drop-down menu to choose the user or group with whom we want to share both the folder and its content (from local users to everyone ). Then, click on the Add button and, in the column on Permission level, we choose the options that most interest us (Read, Read / Write or Delete).
To finish, click on the Share button, and by right-clicking on the path of the shared folder we can select the Copy link option. Then, click on the Done button, and finally we can share the link with the users that are part of the local network.
How to stop file sharing in Windows 10
When we no longer want to continue sharing files over the network, the process to follow is also simple. We must open the File Explorer , find the folder whose content we no longer want to continue sharing, right-click on the folder, select the option Give access to and, finally, click on the option Remove access .
Now we just have to click on the Stop sharing option. Once this is done, and we have completed the necessary steps, the content will not be accessible through the network.
