If we have a mobile phone with a data connection, the problem of accessing the internet often does not exist. Unless, of course, we have poor coverage or even the only connection options available are low speed.
Although 5G connectivity is already beginning to be available in some cities, and in the vast majority 4G is already accessible in many places, it is still possible to find 3G and even E connectivity, to the fear – and horror – of most users.
However, sometimes, connecting to the internet when we are away from home may not be so simple, especially if we try to do it through our digital tablet or laptop, and we are in an outdoor place or in a cafeteria without connection Wifi. What can we do about it?
The truth is that there are some options available, and, at least for the moment, the Windows operating system has become one of the best solutions, although we can also get by with different types of connection on macOS and Android . We just have to know what to do at all times.
Although it is necessary to bear in mind that in most cases it is mainly due to a hardware limitation. That is, many devices, especially mobile phones, are not prepared to receive WiFi and transmit it at the same time, hence when we create a mobile access point on an Android or iPhone device, some connection problems occur.
If we travel a lot, there is no doubt that one of the most useful options is to invest in a travel device that allows us to connect to a mobile network and then provide WiFi connectivity to all the elements that need it. Or, use a mobile phone or a digital tablet with a good contracted data plan that can be used for that purpose.
Share internet from Windows
From the Start menu, open the Windows Settings panel, then go to Network and Internet and choose Mobile Hotspot . This function is ideal for sharing a mobile connection or an internet connection (indeed, the latter is the one that interests us here). Therefore, select WiFi or Ethernet under Share my Internet connection from .
It is also necessary to choose WiFi as the option Share my Internet connection , and then activate the option Share my Internet connection with other devices . A little further down we will see a network name and password that Windows has generated automatically.
This information is essential so that the other devices can be online. However, if for any reason we want to change this information, you will only have to click on Edit .
Clever! The Windows device is ready to connect, until the WiFi access point is disabled.
Share internet from macOS
In the Apple operating system it is only possible to create a WiFi network if the Mac is connected via Ethernet, the connection via WiFi is not viable and then share it at the same time.
If you have a Mac connected to a wired internet connection and you want to share that WiFi connectivity with other devices, just open the Apple menu, choose System Preferences, and go to the Share screen. Then select Internet Sharing . The Ethernet option must be selected next to Share connection from ; then check Wi-Fi on the right, and click on Wi-Fi Options that you will find a little further down. Right here you can configure the new WiFi access point and indicate an access name and password.
We mark Internet Sharing , located on the left, and then Start . Finally, the access point will start working, and other devices will be able to connect to the new WiFi network using the various details that we just added in the Wi-Fi Options dialog box.
However, if you don’t have an Ethernet connection, you can share a Mac’s WiFi connection through Bluetooth connectivity. To do this, we must choose Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet as the shared connection, and Bluetooth PAN as the option to share instead of Wi-Fi . Of course, you should know that the speed of the connection through Bluetooth will be slightly slower.
