It is very common that, when our computer or Mac begins to fail, we begin to get nervous. But things get even more complicated when, suddenly, we discover that it is not possible to start the operating system normally; and what is even worse, we can do absolutely nothing with it.
Although it is true that macOS has a series of useful functions to try to recover the system even by installing a new version of the OS from the Internet (an option that will not be useful to recover the files that were stored on the internal hard drive), if we have from a bootable CD or USB the solution may be a bit faster.
Luckily, when it comes to recovering a device with macOS with the help of a bootable CD or USB, the process to follow is much easier when compared to Windows, since we do not need to access the BIOS settings to modify the drive from which the system should boot.
On the contrary, the process in macOS not only stands out for being simpler , but we will hardly lose a few minutes, not having to enter any system configuration, since the operating system could automatically detect the drive from which to start, and We select this option manually without carrying out any type of change. But let’s go in parts.
Starting our macOS from a bootable CD or USB
Did you know that there is already a key predisposed to select from which drive the system should boot on any Mac? All you have to do is press the Option key (the one to the left of the keyboard, specifically between Control and Command), holding it down to bring up the option to select the reset unit.
Of course, before pressing this key it is evident that we must insert the CD or DVD in the reader unit, or insert the pendrive in the corresponding port. And, once this is done, proceed to reboot the system.
Just before the traditional startup symbol with the Apple logo appears, we must hold down the Option key . At this time, a screen will appear showing us the System option (where the main operating system is installed, usually on the internal hard disk), and the rest of the icons will correspond to the different extra units that we have introduced in the Mac.
To start from any of these options, we just have to click on the one that interests us , and press the arrow that will appear below, so that the system starts from it.
