How to stop sharing files and folders in Windows 10 quickly

Even though Microsoft decided to eliminate the Windows 10 HomeGroup in one of its big updates some time ago, as we have already explained to you at different times, it is still perfectly possible to continue sharing files, folders and printers with other devices or computers connected to the same home or office network.

And although there are a total of three options available (through File Explorer, the Share option or with OneDrive), you need to know what steps to follow to be able to do it easily and without too many complications.

Moreover, as we mentioned in How to share files in Windows 10 without the Home Group, the advantages are very diverse, since we can share those folders and files that we need at all times without having to send them by email or pass them through a pen drive.

But it is evident that, on some occasions, it is normal that when the time comes we no longer need to continue sharing those files or folders. What can we do about it? The best option is to stop sharing those files or folders , for which we will have to follow a series of steps that we will discover below.

Stopping sharing files and folders in Windows 10

With the help of File Explorer

Just as the File Explorer offers us the possibility of sharing folders and files, it also allows us to stop sharing them whenever we need it.

To do this, we must open the File Explorer , find the folder that we have shared, right-click on it, click on Give access to (which will appear in the context menu), and then on Remove access .

Now we must click on the option Stop sharing . Once we have completed these steps, the folder will no longer be available on the network , and other users will not be able to continue accessing it as before.

Through Team Management

In addition to File Explorer, using Computer Management it is also possible to prevent a certain folder from continuing to be shared on the network.

We must go to the Windows 10 Start menu, search for Computer Management and, once we have clicked on it to open it, expand the Shared folders section, which we will find located in the left panel.

We click on the Shared element, and once we have done this we click with the right mouse button on the folder, selecting the option Stop sharing . Finally, we click on the Yes button.

In this way, we will be able, and also easily, to stop sharing those files and folders that we no longer want to continue sharing.
