How to switch from iPhone to Android with Google Drive

Changing the mobile phone can be simple when the new device that we are going to use is of the same brand and operating system as the previous one, which is understood to make it simpler and easier to transfer the most important data between them.

But although we may think that it may not be so much when, for example, we change from an iPhone to an Android , it is true that both systems have their own applications to, at least (and luckily), help users to simplify as much as possible the process.

In fact, when we are going to change our mobile phone, it is extremely common that we always want to have some basic information , such as telephone contacts, notes, the agenda (calendar events), as well as photos and videos.

If you use Google Drive regularly, and you also used this Google service through iPhone, you should know that if you have just bought an Android, the migration process of some basic data will tend to be much easier.

Why use Google Drive?

Although it is possible to download iCloud for Android, and download all our data from there to the new mobile phone, the solution provided by Google is also quite interesting, since it would be enough to have a WiFi connection to download much of the valuable data.

Not surprisingly, Google Drive offers us the possibility of automatically transferring contacts (as long as they are automatically synchronized with our Google account), photos and videos (which we can find available through Google Photos) and calendar events .

The same does not happen with the installed applications, which for reasons of incompatibility will not be transferred to the new mobile phone.

How to do it

All we need to do is download Google Drive on our old iPhone and proceed to connect to our Google account once it has been installed. Of course, we must not forget something important: grant the necessary iOS permissions to the Drive app.

Once in the application, we must make a backup of our device . To do this, we go to Settings , and click on Backup . We choose what we would like to backup and touch Start backup .

Depending on the amount of data that we are backing up, the process may take a few hours, which will also depend on the speed of our Internet connection. When the process is complete, we must proceed to the next step.

How to Restore Data on New Android Phone

The process is even easier. You just have to turn on your Android phone and start setting it up if you haven’t done it before. Then log into your Google account .

Clever! From that moment on, you will find all the backed up data in their corresponding sections: Calendar, Contacts and Google Photos.
