How to unlock an iPhone with iCloud

Every time the screen of our iPhone goes dark, the operating system blocks the device so that only its owner can access it and use it again. And it does so through a lock code , which works the same as a password (although it is also possible to easily authenticate through Touch ID or Face ID, which will depend on the model we are using).

If you have been using iPhone for a long time, it is quite possible that at some point or other you have encountered the problem of having entered the wrong code as a result of the rush, or even not remembering the original lock code.

If this is the case, it is most likely that an iPhone deactivation notice has been displayed, where the system tells us that the device will not be able to be used for a certain period of time, which will also prevent us from entering a new password code again. unlocking.

But after trying and making the mistake several times (especially after the 60 minute wait notice), it is possible that the iPhone ends up completely locking up , at which point the system advises that it will be necessary to connect the device to iTunes .

However, if we do not have access to iTunes or do not want to use this step, through iCloud we can unlock the iPhone . Of course, it is a valid option when we have recently made a backup of the device, because the process through iCloud includes the erasure of all data , to restore the device to the factory. If you want to continue with the process, we explain how to do it.

Unlocking our iPhone through iCloud

On our Mac, iPad, or even another iPhone, we head over to the official iCloud website (via icloud.com). If we have not accessed before, we enter our Apple ID and password. Next, we click on the Search option (previously Find my iPhone).

At that moment a compass will be displayed with the label “Locating…”, and in the All devices section we will have to select the iPhone with which we have the problem (after the drop-down menu appears).

Once this is done, a map will appear with the approximate location where the device is located, and three available options: Play sound, Lost mode and Erase iPhone. Indeed, the option that interests us is the latter.

To do this, we press the Delete iPhone button, and the system will automatically (and remotely) delete the iPhone where we have the problem. When it’s done, we can start the phone setup again like the first time.

How to restore a backup using iTunes

If you recently made a backup of your iPhone, you can easily restore it using iTunes.

To do this, we must start iTunes on the Mac or on the PC and connect our iPhone using the Lightning cable. In iTunes, we select iPhone and choose the Restore backup option.

Now we use the drop-down menu to choose the backup we want to use. And then, click on the Restore button. The process will start. In the meantime, we wait until the backup is fully restored, which might take a while. When finished, click on OK .

Finally, we wait for the iPhone to sync, and once restored, we can disconnect it from the Mac.
