If at some point you have had the need to hang a shelf on the wall, and suddenly you realized that you did not have the level nearby (as a way to find out if we are placing it straight or not), and you had an iPhone , it is very likely that in those moments you did not know that this device has a functionality that could have helped you a lot.
Especially for those cases in which we need to check that a certain surface is perfectly level (which can happen not only when hanging a bookcase or a shelf, but even when hanging a simple picture, photograph or painting), there is no doubt that a level can be very helpful .
However, when we are not in the habit of being a handyman and doing this type of thing, it is normal that we do not have a level at home, which would be the tool we need in these cases.
Luckily, the iPhone can come to our rescue. And, just as it has a compass that is useful at certain times, it also has a level function , which is integrated into the Compass application, through which it is possible to measure the angle of a certain surface .
Using the Compass app
Although it is true that, at first, the Compass application can lead us to error, thinking that it only has this function, the truth is that it also works as a level . In fact, it is the first thing that appears when we open it.
But if we slide the screen to the left we will find a central circle with a cross, which will act as a level. In this way, when we place the mobile phone in a straight position we will realize that this central part will help us to discover whether or not it is straight.
Using the Measurements app
It is true that, although the Compass application has the level function, if you are looking for another more specific option it is possible to use the Measurements app. In fact, this is where Apple decided to move the level integrated into the previous application, specifically from iOS 12.
To use it we must open the Measurements application, and the first thing that will appear on the screen is the function to perform measurements with our iPhone. However, right in the right section we will find the Level option.
If we want to measure a flat horizontal surface, such as the upper frame of an image or a table, we simply have to place the device on top of that certain surface, and move the lower or upper part of the iPhone, up or down, to see how they change. Grades.
It is possible to choose that the background of the application is painted black, red or green simply by touching the screen.
In any case, we must stop moving the device when the number of degrees reaches 0 . When this happens, the screen will also turn green , helping us to know that the surface is perfectly level.
However, when we need to measure a vertical surface, such as a wall, we must place the phone against that vertical surface. Then we move the phone until the number of degrees reaches 0 again, and the lower half of the screen turns green.
