As with many other mobile phones, the iPhone is not without its technical problems. And one of the most common may be the appearance of the dreaded black screen . Suddenly the device freezes to a black screen, reboots unexpectedly, or just can’t turn on.
While some users have experienced this problem right after updating the device to the latest version of iOS 14, others have noticed this problem when launching a certain application for the first time. If it just happened to us, there are some possible solutions.
How to fix black screen problem on iPhone?
Ask Siri to turn on the screen
If you have activated Siri , and you use it regularly, you probably already know that under that peculiar name we find Apple’s voice assistant, available for its different devices.
Interestingly, one of the easiest methods to fix the problem associated with the black screen is to ask Siri to light up the screen . Thus, the assistant is able to gradually illuminate the screen, bringing it back to life.
What’s more, it is perfectly possible to try this method on different occasions, repeating it several times.
Beware of Landscape Mode
Sometimes Landscape Mode can create a headache or two. And some users have reported that they were able to solve the problem simply by changing the screen orientation . Therefore, if we suddenly see a black screen when using portrait mode, a possible solution is to try to return the screen to landscape mode (and vice versa).
Proximity sensor
Depending on how we hold our iPhone, the screen may darken when we hold it on top. We must remember that it is in this area where the proximity sensor is located, so when we hold it in portrait mode, we may be blocking the proximity sensor.
Force restart the iPhone
When none of the above can be the cause of the black screen on iPhone, it is possible to try restarting the device . To do this, you first need to connect the iPhone to a charger and plug it directly into a power outlet. Then, the steps to follow will differ depending on the model we are using:
- iPhone 6 or earlier. We simultaneously hold down the upper button and the home button, until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
- iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus. Press and hold simultaneously the side button and the volume button “-“, until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
- iPhone 8 or later. We quickly press and release the volume button “+”, and immediately press and release the volume button “-“. Then, we press and hold the side volume button, until the Apple logo appears on the screen of our iPhone.
Connecting to the Finder or iTunes
If forced loading or restarting didn’t work, we can try connecting it to Mac with iTunes or Finder .
To do so, just open iTunes or Finder and connect the device to the Mac. Once connected, we can proceed to force restart the device, making sure to see the screen in recovery mode before continuing with the process. If not, it will be necessary to do another forced restart.
