Iran: Police will intervene in the future when dogs go for a walk

The Iranian clergy do not like pets. Therefore, the police in Iran wanted to take action against dog owners two years ago.

Tehran – walking dogs? It’s not that simple in Iran, because the Iranian police want to crack down on dog walking again. “We have received several complaints in this regard and will therefore take action against it,” said a police spokesman on Wednesday (14.07.2021) according to the Isna news agency.

According to this, dogs, especially in parks, should repeatedly cause panic among citizens. Videos on social media of dogs attacking people, including children, have also caused a stir. The police now want to investigate the videos made in Iran, the spokesman said.

In Iran, the trend towards dogs and cats is increasing

The police wanted to introduce such a ban two years ago and also take consistent action against dog owners. But not only did the plan fail, the trend towards pets, especially during the corona pandemic, increased significantly. Also, there is no clear law against walking in Iran. For example, if someone is arrested for going for a walk, he or she should actually be released due to the lack of a law.

In general, keeping pets is not welcome in Iran, especially among the clergy. In addition, there are still many Iranians who are extremely afraid of animals – including cats, but especially dogs. But at the same time, more and more young Iranians are taking in dogs as pets. As a result, there have been more and more veterinary clinics and pet supplies stores for the past few years.
