Glaciers are generated by the accumulation of compact snow in the continental area, so the water in icebergs is not salty , although these gigantic pieces of ice float in the sea. It is a water so pure and fresh that it is even marketed bottled and in the form of ice to drink with vodka. We can only see a seventh of its size, as the rest remains hidden under water.
These blocks of ice must be differentiated from those formed by the freezing of the ocean water that surrounds Antarctica, which are salty. This ice occupies an area of more than 20 million km2.
