Israel reimposes the use of a mask in some areas of the country after two new outbreaks of Covid

Israel’s Ministry of Health has reimposed the obligation to wear a mask in some areas of the country after registering two new outbreaks of COVID-19 in schools, five days after the obligation to wear it across the country was lifted.

As of this Sunday, it will be mandatory to wear the mask indoors and outdoors in schools in Modiin-Maccabim-Reut and Binyamina, according to the Health Ministry in a statement.

These two municipalities are joined by Modiin, where its mayor, Haim Bibas, ordered on Saturday the return to the masks in the interiors of the entire city. In a message posted on his Twitter account, Bibas called on “school principals and educational personnel to be strict with the order and for parents to avoid entering the grounds of educational institutions as much as possible” .

“We must do everything possible to avoid a new increase in morbidity,” insisted Bibas, after noting 15 infections of coronavirus from students.

To these are added the positives of another 44 students from two schools in the city of Binyamina, who according to preliminary investigations have been infected with the Delta variant, detected for the first time in India, reports ‘The Times of Israel’.

Israel has been one of the first countries in the world to withdraw almost all of the measures adopted to deal with the pandemic, with one of the lowest incidence rates and after immunizing the majority of the population.

In the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health has reported 46 new cases of coronavirus for a total of 839,837, while almost 5.5 million Israelis have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
