In doing so, he spoke to relatives. “You’re going through hell,” said Biden afterwards. He emphasized that the relatives knew that the chances of survival were dwindling every day and were dealing with it “realistically”, according to the US President.

“It’s bad to lose someone. But the difficult thing, the really difficult thing, is not knowing whether someone survived or not, ”said the 78-year-old in Miami.

Before Biden turned to the press, he was informed of the current status by the emergency services. According to this, 18 dead people have so far been rescued from the rubble of the collapsed house. According to the authorities, these included two children. Almost 150 people are currently still missing.

After several hours, the search for missing persons finally resumed.

Joe Biden praised the commitment of the emergency services: “What they do is incredible.” The mission is not only dangerous, but also an enormous psychological burden. Fireman Cominsky had previously stated that, among other things, “human remains” had been found in the rubble. However, these have not yet been identified.

Miami: Experts warned of defects in the collapsed house

A few days ago, an inspection report from 2018 became public after numerous media reports in the USA had reported on it. In it, experts warned of deficiencies in the statics of the residential complex, which is also known as Champlain Towers South. In the report, the experts referred, among other things, to deficiencies in the building’s concrete and listed measures that were necessary in the event of a renovation.
