For David Burks, the chief sculptor, smiles and eyes also played the most important role – and made the figure of Kamala Harris a challenge. “We wanted to focus on her smile and the warmth in her eyes,” said David Burks, the head sculptor, to the US broadcaster CNN. “It’s this sparkle in the eyes that is so difficult to capture … a real warmth that is really important to get into our characters.”
It took six weeks to model the heads of the two figures. The work on the bodies of the figures will take another four to six months. Estimate for each figure: About $ 300,000. “It’s pretty expensive, but we make it look as authentic as possible so that the guests feel that they can move around at any time or that they can put their arm around their heroes,” says Burks.
