King Turtle, the reissue of the iconic Seiko watch loved by divers.

Few watches are as iconic among watch lovers – and diving enthusiasts – as Seiko’s SRP series. Seiko’s 6309 Turtle was made between 1976 and 1988, and the modern version, SRPE05 Prospex, is an excellent reissue.

Sea turtles are symbols of good fortune, which is why this watch was nicknamed the King Turtle by diving enthusiasts, as well as its premium features. And this is confirmed by its designers Kishino and Monjugawa; “Taking a quick glance, the silhouette appears to be in the shape of a tortoise. Looking at it from the side, it appears to have a shell. And if we flip it over, the back also looks like a turtle. We are sure that this turtle is like a good luck charm for divers.”

The watch’s size, shape and khaki green color make it perfect for everyday use, while the sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel make it reliable enough to last for many years.

Enhancing this timeless classic, the new Seiko SRPE05 Prospex features a sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel which, combined, make the Turtle’s dial essentially scratch-resistant.

Also, a small magnifying glass has been added above the date, and the bezel has been given additional texture to make it easier to turn, both on land and under the sea.

All those little changes give the Seiko King Turtle an ultra-modern look and feel, even though the watch can trace its heritage back over 50 years.

What is really special about the new King Turtle is the khaki green color and the dial, with a grid pattern that gives a 3D sensation to the eye. And what’s more, it changes depending on how you look at it in direct sunlight, or under water light, which makes the dial stand out.

The SRPE05 offers the same great aquatic performance as all previous SRP watches. It is water resistant to 200 meters and has an automatic mechanical movement, capable of manual winding, with a power reserve of up to 41 hours.

Without a doubt, the King Turtle is for someone who not only wants a dive watch, but wants to be seen wearing it. And in that sense, the new version meets all expectations.
