Dorsten – A large forest fire near Autobahn 31 and Bundesstraße 224 near Dorsten kept several fire brigades in suspense for hours. The fire brigade announced on Wednesday morning that an area of around 25,000 square meters was affected.
The A31 in the direction of Emden and the B224 were completely closed in the area on Tuesday afternoon and evening for hours. Several fire engines from Dorsten, Schermbeck, Altenschermbeck, Gahlen, Raesfeld, Heiden and Marl helped fight the fire. The post-extinguishing work lasted until early Wednesday morning. Nobody got hurt.
The Dorsten fire brigade used drones to continuously monitor the fire from above, it said. In addition, drone technicians from the Recklinghausen fire brigade were called in to locate embers with thermal imaging cameras. A police helicopter was also circling over the area of the fire. Farmers helped with the water supply with liquid manure barrels and set up a shuttle service. According to the information, a total of more than 180 fire and rescue services were deployed. dpa
