Three dead at two crime scenes: Berlin murder investigators had a lot to do at the weekend. A number of questions are still open.
Berlin – After the violent death of a 57-year-old man in Berlin-Friedrichshain, the alleged perpetrator is temporarily being housed in a rehabilitation center.
A judge ordered this because alcohol was involved in the act and the 37-year-old’s innocence could not be ruled out, the public prosecutor said on Sunday. The victim was stabbed, and the suspect is being investigated for murder.
The alleged perpetrator reports to the police
The body of the 57-year-old was found in his apartment on Singerstrasse early on Saturday morning. Earlier, the alleged perpetrator had appeared at Police Section 26 and stated that two weeks ago he had killed a man who was a tenant of the apartment in question.

According to prosecutors, both men knew each other and met from time to time. On the day of the crime, the 37-year-old broke into the 57-year-old’s apartment to steal his wallet. The victim, who was initially asleep, woke up, which led to an argument with a fatal outcome.
Residents called the police in Spandau
Homicide investigators were called to a second crime scene on Saturday. In a house in Wilhelmstadt in the Spandau district, according to current knowledge, a 79-year-old man first killed a 38-year-old and then died himself – probably due to a fire he had set.
The public prosecutor’s office kept a low profile on Sunday, a spokesman referred to the ongoing investigation. He merely confirmed that the 79-year-old had sold the house in question to the 38-year-old. Further backgrounds are still being investigated, it said. According to investigators, the younger man died as a result of “violence”. More information about the cause of death was not initially available. Local residents alerted the police around noon on Saturday because they claim to have heard at least one shot. dpa
