Istanbul – In the Turkish Black Sea region, 27 people have been killed in connection with flooding in the region, according to the disaster agency Afad. More than 1,700 people were brought to safety, Afad said.

Heavy rains flooded many places in the region. According to media reports, the water was five meters high in some places. Among other things, around 5,000 emergency services and 19 helicopters are involved in the rescue work, supported by non-governmental organizations and the military. “This is the worst flood disaster I've seen,” said Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu.

25 people died in the city of Kastamonu, around 100 kilos inland from the Black Sea coast. Two more are said to have died in the port city of Sinop. The city of Bartin is also affected by the floods. A person is missing there. dpa
