Many “lockdown dogs” end up in British animal shelters

During the corona pandemic, many people did not want to be alone – and bought pets. According to a BBC report, many dogs have now been given back in Great Britain.

Rhondda Cynon Taf – Many Britons who got a dog in the Corona lockdown seem to want to get rid of it soon.

And a number of dogs are then apparently given up as alleged strays at animal shelters, as the BBC reported. In some cases, the keepers are said to have previously tried in vain to sell the animals on Internet platforms, reported industry workers.

“The numbers are definitely unprecedented right now,” Sara Rosser of the Hope Resuce Center in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Welsh, told the UK broadcaster. “We have to accept stray dogs, which is why many false strays are currently skipping the line.” This is currently longer than ever in the 15-year history of the animal shelter. Other homes report similar experiences.

The organization assumes that the high demand could continue for up to two years. In the first year of the pandemic, more than three million British households are said to have bought a new pet, according to figures from the Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association. dpa
