Marjorie Taylor Greene: This drug "won the Nobel Peace Prize!"

Marjorie Taylor Greene is a loyal ally of Donald Trump and never misses an opportunity to rail against Joe Biden. To do this, she sometimes fables about the Nobel Peace Prize for medicines.

Washington DC – Marjorie Taylor Greene hit the headlines again. The 47-year-old congresswoman attacked the administration of US President Joe Biden because she would not recommend a controversial drug for the treatment of corona patients. Greene asked Biden to recommend the anti-parasitic ivermectin, even if the effectiveness of the drug against Covid-19 has not yet been proven.

In an interview with “Real America’s Voice”, a right-wing conservative news platform in the USA with a clear penchant for Donald Trump, Marjorie Taylor Greene promoted the drug. It is not only effective, it is also rewarded and has already received a number of awards. Including a very special one: “It even won a Nobel Peace Prize,” says Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Marjorie Taylor Greene confuses the Nobel Peace Prize with the Nobel Prize in Medicine

Ivermectin did not win a Nobel Peace Prize. That Marjorie Taylor Greene came up with the idea probably has the following reason: The scientists William C. Campbell from the USA and Satoshi Omura from Japan were honored with the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2015 for their research on ivermectin. They found the drug to be very effective in treating infections caused by roundworms, a parasite that mostly affects humans. It has not yet been proven whether the drug also helps against corona infections.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, like Donald Trump a member of the Republican Party, followed suit, calling both the administration of Joe Biden and the US virologist Anthony Fauci and “all these doctors” “irresponsible for not recommending the prescription of ivermectin”.

Even at this year’s awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize, however, the drug should go away empty-handed. The same is probably true of Donald Trump, who in the past had already wrongly described himself as a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. (Daniel Dillmann)
