Joachim Gauck formulates powerful political words in a soft voice that are intended to encourage a humane attitude. That’s where Markus Lanz gets personal.
Berlin – The Federal President a. D. has always been critical of Russia and had a clear picture of Vladimir Putin, “but that he would take it so far: that after a long period of peace” and “a thriving coexistence between the West and “Russia” is realizing its “imperial dream” with this war of aggression, that is “somewhat astonishing” for Joachim Gauck. In his eyes, he is currently “obsessed with an ideology” in which an individual “critical self-perception” disappears.
“You unscrew the Communism company sign” and put on a new one, for which the new national interest of Russia’s size should now stand and how the ruler would like to see it, said Gauck in an interview with TV journalist Markus Lanz on ZDF. In many other places in the world, too, “transitional societies” are reviving, whose populations are putting the “residual trust” in “leaders”. “We exchange (…) the loss of our own freedom for the joy of the greatness of the whole” and “the real enemy here is liberal thinking”, which this ideal of “conservative thinking seems unbearable.”
Markus Lanz and Joachim Gauck with a conversation about Putin: “Deficit in head and heart”
In the democratic talks, it was never said openly that “this is a liar or a killer.” But the former Federal President has never liked to act “as if he doesn’t know who is visiting him” or as if he doesn’t know what Communism means: Subtle verbal tips in the conversations that straighten out the circumstances of all those involved “that works, you can do that,” in order to express a certain attitude. Not being able to do this “is a deficit of the head and heart.”
Green Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck is currently making him happy. “Doing politics means not only defining goals and describing content”, but also conveying values “that we think are right” and also communicating them. Politicians too often rely on the media, “that’s why there are talk shows”: the media are “mediating authorities” and politics “in a media landscape like ours can rely on the fact that you won’t be consistently misunderstood.”
In between, Robert Habeck is “the type of politician” who is able to independently “explain why we do something.” This means that the German population can enter into a stronger and more active dialogue to discuss the actions and thus the position in the global to question perception.
TV criticism of Markus Lanz: About the pacifist approach and the right behavior in war
Markus Lanz served in the Italian military and was always of the opinion, “when it comes down to it, I’ll take my feet up and make sure I get away as quickly as possible.” Shooting at someone, “I want that in I don’t have to do that in my life.” The war has now changed this attitude. What if Berlin was attacked? Joachim Gauck would also wish he never had to take up arms, but in such a case he would do it.
The pacifist approach, “honourable as it is in personal life,” is an approach “that does not lead to good” because it encourages “the dominance of the wicked.” We do not need “surrender to the unscrupulous” in this world. “Freedom also exists as freedom FOR something. responsibility for something.”
Markus Lanz and Joachim Gauck on ZDF: Intellectuals lack the “perspective of the victims”
If the published opinion of the media is completely different from the public opinion of the masses, Markus Lanz asks in relation to his last conversation with the philosopher Richard David Precht. Things may “like Mr. Precht or not”, but “we want Don’t act as if we were already fleeing reality again.” Joachim Gauck takes a critical view of the “appeal of the intellectuals” because they lack “the perspective of the victims”: They act as if they were sitting in “heavenly heights”. and looked at the underage world from there.
But how can you “rely on negotiations” and not help “a negotiating partner (…) further?” Such a view displeases the former Federal President enormously. For him, a “renunciation of arms deliveries” would be “an advantage for the aggressor.” And should Vladimir Putin be successful in Ukraine, all the other small countries around it would be “mass of seduction” in the eyes of the former Federal President, for the one who is in power then yes Apparently it is appropriate: “If you start to think like that, then you can somehow put the whole international law somewhere else.” (Tina Waldeck)
