The media library of the ARD broadcaster BR is to be discontinued soon. However, the content remains available online on another platform.
Kassel – The media library of Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) is to be transferred to the ARD media library in the future. The broadcaster confirmed this at the request of fernsehserien.de. This is intended to save resources and make content visible to a larger audience. However, after the end of its own platform, the contents of BR are to be made available to users on the ARD website.
Many BR programs are already available in the ARD media library. Some programs, such as “Gottschalk reads?” could only be found in the BR media library. In the future, all the content of Bayerischer Rundfunk will be available alongside other regional offerings on ARD. The BR is one of nine regional broadcasters belonging to the ARD, which is largely financed through the broadcasting fee.

Increase reach in the ARD media library
The decision follows the goal of concentrating on the five major digital platforms of ARD. These include the ARD media library, the ARD audio library, Tagesschau.de, Sportschau.de and Kika.de. And for the programs of the BR, this change could also be good. BR content is already getting higher viewing numbers on the ARD side than on its own, as reported by fernsehserien.de. And the number of users of the media library continues to rise.
In radio, however, BR will retain its own platform. Some programs, such as Bayern 2’s “Tagssprach” (“Day of the Day”), will in future only be made available in the BR Radio app and no longer in the ARD audio range. However, the television broadcast of the “daily talk” should continue to be available in the ARD media library.
The conversion of the media libraries is expected to be completed in spring 2023. (Nils Tilmann)
