Met gala planned with Billie Eilish and Timothée Chalamet

It’s New York’s party of the year – the Met Gala. This year it should finally take place again. On a smaller scale, but with a lot of stars.

New York (AP) – With actor Timothée Chalamet, singer Billie Eilish, poet Amanda Gorman and tennis professional Naomi Osaka, the New York Metropolitan Museum wants to catch up on the two Met Galas that were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic in September.

The stars would act as co-organizers of the benefit gala planned for September 13 “on a smaller scale”, announced the Metropolitan Museum. The top host is once again Anna Wintour, head of the US fashion magazine “Vogue”.

The “Costume Institute Benefit” gala usually takes place on the first Monday in May every year, but this year and last year the star-studded party had to be canceled due to the pandemic.

Often referred to as the “Party of the Year,” the Met Ball gala is an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute. The annual budget of the institute, which is celebrating its 75th birthday this year and is now named after Wintour, is estimated at several million dollars in revenue from the festival.

In addition to the gala, the anniversary will be celebrated with two exhibitions on the history of American fashion. “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” should open in September, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” in May 2022. Both should be on view until September 2022.

“This two-part exhibition will look at how fashion reflects the changing notions of identity in America,” said the Austrian director of the Metropolitan Museum, Max Hollein.
