Mexico's proven hydrocarbon reserves rise slightly

Mexico's proven hydrocarbon reserves rose 0.4% to 8,014.4 million barrels of crude oil equivalent (boe) as of January 1, 2022 from a year earlier, the oil sector regulator said on Tuesday.

Crude reserves decreased 1% to 6,058.7 million barrels, while gas reserves rose to 10,781 billion cubic feet, according to data from the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) released in an internet session.

The data brings together the reserves of the state oil company Pemex, the largest operator in the sector in Mexico, and those of other companies that have entered the market after the 2013/2014 energy reform, both national and large foreign companies.

The oil market regulator has a new president

The National Hydrocarbons Commission did not have a sufficient quorum, so the appointment was made from the presidency; however, the new incumbent has little experience in the oil sector.

LAST MINUTE: Rogelio Hernández, president of the National Hydrocarbons Commission, resigns from his position

The Ministry of the Interior reported that it has begun to look for a new head of the energy sector regulator.

The energy market regulators will not disappear if the electricity reform is approved

The initial initiative eliminated the figure of regulatory bodies in energy matters and with it the CRE and the CNH would lose their independence. But the proposal no longer appears in the new opinion.

The cost of LP gas drops 2%, at the federal level

In other entities, such as the State of Mexico or Tlaxcala, the decrease is greater, according to the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE).

The withdrawal of more rigid rules to Pemex receives the final setback in court

With this decision, the regulation that sought to put a more even floor between private companies and Pemex should be reestablished.
