For the first time in 25 years, Microsoft has changed its logo . As a typeface they have used the Segoe font, which they also use in their products and in their marketing communications. The symbol, made up of colored squares, tries to “express the wide range of the company’s products” as explained in a press release.
The leading software company thus replaces its well-known logo with an italic style, and does so in order to unify its brand for a series of new product launches this 2012. Microsoft will release its new Windows 8 operating system this October 26 and hopes that the logo unifies the customer experience with the company, as does the distinctive logo of its rival Apple Inc and its consumers. The new design, which resembles the current logo used for Windows, its main product, is already being used on Microsoft’s website.
