More than 2 million tourists will travel on the September bridge

For the next long weekend, which runs from September 16 to 18, 2022, it is estimated that more than two million national tourists will travel to the country’s destinations, reported the federal Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués.

According to Sector, a hotel occupancy of 51.6% is expected nationwide, this is only 2.1 percentage points less compared to the same ‘bridge’ of 2019, where 53.7% of general occupancy was registered during the days of this weekend length.

He pointed out that the arrival of 1.1 million tourists to hotels is estimated, which compared to the same period in 2019, represents a recovery of 97.3%, this means that only 28,000 tourists are missing to reach the level of 2019, which is equivalent to 2.7% less .

Torruco Marqués specified that of the total number of estimated tourists arriving at the hotel, 790,000, will be nationals, that is, 78.1% of the total and 21.9% international.

In addition, in this period it is expected that one million 216,000 more national tourists will stay in another form of lodging such as visiting family and friends, as well as in second homes; and it is also estimated that 132,000 tourists, both domestic and foreign, stay in shared economy accommodation.

The Secretary of Tourism reported that the expected income for lodging is 2,698 million pesos, which together with other tourist services will reach a total consumption of tourist services of 29,628 million pesos.

According to estimates, the percentage of occupancy that will be reached in 12 selected centers will be: Acapulco, 73.1%; Mexico City, 72.2%; Puebla, 70.4%; Cancun, 69.8%; Queretaro, 66.5%; Puerto Vallarta, 64.8%; Los Cabos, 62.4%; Aguascalientes, 62.1%; San Miguel de Allende, 59.3%; Villahermosa, 51.2%; San Cristobal de las Casas, 42.9%; and Tuxtla Gutierrez, 42.7%.

Together, these destinations represent 42.5% of the total number of rooms in the centers monitored in the DataTur system.
