Witnesses watch as a sports plane loses altitude significantly. The engine howls – then it crashes.
Hildesheim – When a motor glider crashed into two houses, the 79-year-old pilot died in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony. He came from the Magdeburg area and had started his plane there, the police said.
The man crashed his plane into two inhabited buildings in the town of Lübbrechtsen for reasons that are not yet known. Because none of the residents were there at the time of the crash, there were no other injuries. There was material damage to the houses, the police said in the evening.
According to the police investigation, the pilot had previously circled twice over the village. Witnesses observed that the plane lost altitude significantly the second time, and howling engine noises were also audible. After that he fell. The scene of the accident was cordoned off by the police and fire brigade, and the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation took up the investigation. dpa
