Nestlé invests 340 million dollars in its new plant in Veracruz. It is the most sustainable in the country.

Nestlé opened its most sustainable coffee processing plant in Santa Rita, Veracruz, a year and a half after the planned date due to delays caused by the confinement.

In this plant, the company will process an additional 40,000 tons of green coffee for the production of the Nescafé brands. For consideration, the company shelled out $340 million.

“We see the potential that Mexico has, we see a young and hard-working population, in addition to being a stable economy, where we have maintained macroeconomic stability, despite global volatility,” said Fausto Costa, executive president of Nestlé Mexico.

The announcement of the construction of this factory was given in December 2019, so it was said that in a first stage, it would require an investment of 154 million dollars.

This new amount of money is part of the 700 million dollars of financing, which the company has promised to spend to modernize its 17 plants in Mexico.

In addition, the factory has a biomass boiler where the biological waste from the coffee process is used to generate energy that represents 70% of the consumption required for the generation of water vapor that is used throughout the production process.

With this new factory, the company specified that the purchase of green coffee from Mexican farmers will increase by 50% in the next 3 years. In addition, 1,200 direct and 12,000 indirect jobs will be generated.

The manager explained that the company increased its exports of products made in Mexico from 200 to 600 million dollars a year, with shipments to more than 66 countries, without specifying the period of growth, which he considers is supported by the trade agreements that Mexico has. .
