Netflix wants to enter the video game sector

It’s true: Netflix has never hidden its interest in the video game industry , especially in what many call and know as interactive entertainment .

For example, the firm has already tried the delicate exercise of interactive footage with the launch of ‘Black Mirror BanderSnatch’, a film where the viewer must make certain decisions instead of the main character. Along the same lines, the company also launched ‘You vs. Wild ‘, a series of interactive adventures.

According to some sources, Netflix may have plans to approach the video game sector, after a meeting became known between the streaming service and executives from the games industry.

There is no doubt that streaming services, such as Netflix or HBO Max, have seen enormous growth thanks to the coronavirus pandemic in which we are still immersed. However, we must remember that Google Stadia intended to become the “Netflix of games”, thanks to its cloud-based gaming infrastructure.

However, at least for the moment, where Google has failed with Stadia, other companies such as Amazon or Microsoft hope to succeed. For example, Microsoft’s xCloud service allows Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream more than 100 games to PC and mobile devices.

While, the equivalent of Amazon’s Stadia, known by the name of Luna, has a channel subscription system that offers the possibility for players to subscribe to a specific developer, giving access to all the games released or published by it. , and all the new releases from practically the first day.

Netflix could diversify by turning to video games

As recently reported by The Information , Netflix is in the process of creating a specific division especially dedicated to games . Some sources indicated to this medium that Netflix had met with video game executives to invite them to join the company in recent weeks.

Although it is, it is true, information that has not yet been confirmed, many are not surprised that the company is looking to enter the video game market. And some other experts are already wondering if Netflix is not planning to launch soon a “game package similar to Apple’s online subscription offer”, baptized with the name of Apple Arcade.

The truth is that it is not the first time that Netflix has interacted with the video game industry. For example, at the time it already licensed ‘Stranger Things: The Game’, and produced several interactive television shows.

What’s more, many wonder if we are not facing the development of a gaming system similar to Stadia, developed by Google. And it has some advantages: You could learn from the competition and understand why some of the world’s largest tech companies have failed so far.
