Do you want to travel to Russia but are you afraid of not understanding even dad? Are you fascinated by Japanese culture but can’t learn its language? Google has just announced the new Google Translate, with which you can translate from posters to your own voice between different languages.
A few weeks ago Skype announced its simultaneous translation system in remote conversations. Now Google has wanted to get on the same train and has announced the update and improvements to its star translation app, Google Translate .
Currently more than 500 million people use Google Translate every month and perform more than one billion translations a day. Thanks to the new functionalities, the Silicon Valley giant intends to ” turn our telephone into a universal translator, in addition to bringing us closer to the idea of a world in which languages are not a barrier to discovering information or to get in touch with other people” as they explain themselves.
Are you in a city with a different language and you want to know what a street indication means? Do you want to know what you can eat in a restaurant? The Translate app allows you to use the camera mode to capture a photo of a text and translate it into 36 different languages. To do this, just activate the application and point the camera towards a sign or text to immediately see the translation superimposed on your screen (you don’t even need to have an Internet connection). At the moment this instant translation is offered from English to French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish (and vice versa) and, as explained by Google, they are “working to be able to offer it in more languages soon “.
Another of the new star features is voice translation. By tapping the microphone icon on the screen, the voice translation mode is directly activated. By tapping the microphone icon again, the Google Translate app automatically recognizes the two languages that are being used. Once the languages have been recognized, all you have to do is speak to the smartphone for it to appear immediately translated.
These updates will be available for Android and iOS from mid-January 2015.
