Safety Patrick Chung has announced the end of his career. The New England Patriots Safety had already waived the 2020 season due to Covid concerns.
Chung, 33, was a second round pick from the Patriots and played for New England from 2009 to 2012 and from 2014 until his retirement, winning a total of three Super Bowls. In 2013 he played one season with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bill Belichick once called Chung one of the safest tacklers he has ever coached.
Chung announced the end of his career on Instagram and thanked the Patriots organization, his family, the fans and coaches.
“I’m writing this with tears, but I’ve decided to hang up my shoes. Bill, Mr. Kraft, thank you for giving me the chance to play for your team for eleven years. I love you. And Bill “Thank you for teaching me on and off the field, I’ll never forget that,” Chung wrote.
In eleven years in the league, Chung made 153 games and caught eleven interceptions. He also had 4.5 sacks and 778 tackles. Chung is the only player consistently in the playoffs in his first eleven seasons in the NFL and was also elected to the Patriots’ 2010 All-Decade Team.
