The Pittsburgh Steelers have surprisingly agreed on a new contract with wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, which makes him a bargain.
Smith-Schuster signed for a year and eight million dollars, according to several media reports.
Apparently the Baltimore Ravens were also on Smith-Schuster and are said to have made the best offer. The New York Jets were also said to be more interested in the slot receiver.
Smith-Schuster, however, chose to stay in Pittsburgh and become free agent again at the age of 25 in the coming year when the salary cap is likely to rise again.
Smith-Schuster was a second round pick of the Steelers in the 2017 draft. His best season so far was 2018 (111 REC, 1426 YDS, 7 TD), but in 2020 he set a career best brand with nine touchdowns. Smith-Schuster mainly plays in the slot and has not yet proven that he can also produce as an outside receiver. This, too, could have depressed its market value this year.
