The Physics Nobel Prize 2022 is traditionally awarded in the Nobel Prize week after the Medicine Nobel Prize. The winner of this year’s Nobel Prize will be announced today.
Stockholm – The Nobel Prize Week 2022 continues. After starting with the Nobel Prize in Medicine for the Swede Svante Pääbo, who works in Leipzig, a decision will be made on Tuesday (October 4) in Stockholm who will receive the Nobel Prize in Physics. At 11.45 a.m. at the earliest, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will announce who will receive the prestigious award. The Nobel Prizes are endowed with ten million Swedish crowns (almost 920,000 euros). A German researcher in quantum optics is one of the favourites.

Physics Nobel Laureates 2022 are announced
The Nobel Prizes for chemistry and literature follow on Wednesday and Thursday, the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday and the award for economics on Monday. With the exception of the Nobel Peace Prize winner chosen in Oslo, all other prize winners will be announced in Stockholm. The awards are then traditionally presented on December 10th, the anniversary of the death of the award donor and dynamite inventor Alfred Nobel (1833-1896).

Nobel Prize in Physics 2022: Quantum researchers from Garching among the favorites
Among the favorites for the future Nobel Prize in Physics is the German Immanuel Bloch. His name appears on what is known as the Clarivate Citation Laureates list, which publishes each year 20 world-class researchers whose work is described as “noble class.”
49-year-old Immanuel Bloch “researches in the field of quantum optics and quantum many-body systems. He has made a name for himself worldwide with pioneering experiments in quantum physics,” says his Leopoldina CV. And further: “With his work he has opened a new, interdisciplinary field of research at the interface of quantum optics, quantum information processing and solid state physics.”
- Immanuel Bloch, Scientific Director of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching and Professor of Experimental Physics in Munich.
- Stephen R. Quake works at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and is Professor of Bioengineering and Applied Physics at Stanford University.
- Takashi Taniguchi from the International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics, National Institute for Materials Science in Japan and Kenji Watanabe from the National Institute for Materials Science in Japan.
Physics Nobel Prize 2021 also goes to Germans – climate modelers are awarded
