"Öko-Test": Many face masks are recommended

The magazine “Öko-Test” had cream or sheet masks for facial skin tested in the laboratory. With good news.

Frankfurt/Main – The magazine “Öko-Test” can recommend two thirds of the face masks tested. The bad news: If you want to live more sustainably, you should avoid single-use products.

But let’s get back to the good news: 33 of 49 face masks that laboratories have examined do not contain any problematic substances. 27 of them even received the test grade “very good”.

However, six cream or cloth masks in the test received the rating “poor” or “inadequate”. They contain problematic substances such as PEG/PEG derivatives and halogenated organic compounds. Or the manufacturers did not give the examiners convincing efficacy studies for an advertised anti-aging effect.

Many of the tested masks are packaged in portions for one-time use. This also means that waste is generated with every application, especially with sheet masks. If you want to avoid this, the experts of the “Öko-Test” (March 2022 issue) recommend buying tubes with more content. Or you can make masks yourself. dpa
