With the cancellation announced on Twitter, the French metropolis is following the measures required by the government to combat the Covid 19 pandemic. French Prime Minister Jean Castex called on the country’s prefects and municipalities on Friday evening to ban fireworks, concerts and alcohol consumption on public streets on December 31.
The number of new infections with the corona virus has skyrocketed in France over the past few weeks. Most recently, around 515 people per 100,000 residents across the country were infected within a week. In some areas the value is significantly higher. dpa
