Flooded streets, washed away cars, destroyed homes and thousands without electricity – the governor of Kentucky fears the worst: “We expect the loss of lives.”

Frankfort – After heavy rains in Kentucky, the governor of the US state fears deaths. “We are witnessing one of the worst and most devastating flood events in Kentucky history,” said Andy Beshear.

“What we’re going to see is massive property damage. We expect lives to be lost, hundreds who will lose their homes.” The situation was particularly tense in several counties in the east of the state. Pictures showed flooded streets and washed away cars.

All possible rescuers have been activated, Beshear said. Three state parks would be opened to people whose homes were no longer habitable. 23,000 people are without electricity. dpa
