IFA, the technology fair that is held every year in Berlin at this time, involves the start-up of all the machinery by all the companies in the sector for the upcoming Christmas. Although in future articles I will review some of the innovations that have been presented, today I want to dwell on the fact that more and more PCs incorporate new intelligent functionalities, to resemble and even surpass the most powerful smartphones.
This is what a Chinese company, which bought IBM’s computers division a few years ago, in 2005, and IBM’s servers division, in 2014, and which also acquired the Motorola mobile phone brand a few years ago, has been proposed to do: ” make their products intelligent, ‘smart’, with technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) itself or the one we already have, such as 5G. And with the aim of making life easier for users ”.
Intelligence and connectivity
I am talking about Lenovo, which in Berlin has unveiled new smarter devices for homes, as well as laptops, augmented reality systems and mobile devices, all designed to provide “smarter technology for all people”. The term “smart” is used to denote innovation and the ability to break rules and exceed set limits, but it has also become synonymous with connectivity.
Focusing on laptops, in the premium range called Yoga the Chinese company is committed to artificial intelligence. The new models presented at IFA, Yoga C940 and Yoga S740 have exclusive smart features that adapt to the performance needs of users, such as the Super Resolution function to improve the video up to 1080p FHD in Windows Media Player3, and the Q- Control (appointed by the key combination that is used to mode), which has the potential to increase dynamically battery of the PC when the cooling mode (Intelligent Intelligent Cooling mode) is enabled improved by IA to monitor the thermal properties of the device and improve fan control. Also noteworthy is the Modern Standby function, which allows Lenovo Yoga laptops to perform tasks in the background, such as receiving emails when in sleep mode, to instantly wake up from sleep mode like a smartphone does.
New features
Smart features via the Amazon Alexa voice assistant are also available on the new Yoga laptops in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany, such as Lock Screen Support, to speak to Alexa when the lid is open. the laptop and the computer is in lock or sleep mode and it will respond to you instantly, with pop-up messages that appear at the bottom of the screen; o Updated Smart Home Visuals; plus multi-language support to speak to Alexa in multiple languages without changing settings (currently only offered in English and German).
Additional smart features include an IR camera that can detect the absence of a person after a few seconds and allow instant logoff. If a video is viewed and the user walks away for a few minutes, the PC is smart enough to stop the video and go back to where it left off when the user returns. And during video calls, the background can be blurred to avoid the appearance of our family or pets during an online meeting.
But it’s not just Lenovo’s new notebook PCs that are getting smarter. The Chinese firm also wants to transform the smart home with its newly released products, such as its two new tablets equipped with the Google assistant: Lenovo Yoga Smart Tab and Lenovo Smart Tab M8, which become centers for the smart home, with functions immersive and hands-free and the Ambient Mode of the Google Assistant.
