The background is still unclear: a police officer was killed north of Toronto and another injured.
Toronto (AP) – A police officer was fatally injured by gunshots during an operation at a residential building in eastern Canada, according to authorities. Another officer suffered serious injuries in the incident in the town of Innisfil, north of Toronto on Tuesday evening, the South Simcoe Police Department said in a statement.
Accordingly, officials had been called to the house because of a disturbance. In the building, both police officers were then hit by bullets, it said.
The alleged perpetrator was later pronounced dead after police intervention. There were initially no details on this or the background to the operation. The two police officers were initially taken to a local hospital to be treated for their gunshot wounds, it said. One died there. The other was flown to Toronto and taken to an emergency center. His condition remains critical. dpa
