The case has caused outrage across the country. A girl has died innocently in a car chase in Liverpool. The police are investigating.
LIVERPOOL – Police have received leads on the killing of a nine-year-old girl in Liverpool. Two different sources gave the authorities a name, the BBC reported on Wednesday.
Liverpool Police Superintendent Emily Spurrell welcomed the development. “I’m really excited to hear that information is coming out,” Spurrell said. Earlier, in a rare move, police had appealed to criminals to share information about the case, which sparked horror across the country. The authorities complain about a wall of silence towards the security forces in the northern English city.
Nine-year-old Olivia was shot dead on Monday night after a 35-year-old man stormed into the girl’s home while fleeing a gunman. The pursuer fired through the half-open door. He killed the child and injured his 46-year-old mother on the wrist. The suspect was seriously injured and is in a hospital. He is to be questioned as a witness about the bloody deed. The police arrested him for violating the terms of his probation. Authorities did not say why or how long he was detained. Both men have no connection to the family, the police emphasized. Accordingly, it is probably a gang war in the Liverpool underworld. dpa
