Princess Diana was suddenly torn from life when she was only 36 years old. 24 years later, an eyewitness remembers the tragic night in Paris.

Paris – The news of Princess Diana’s (36, † 1997) death shocks the whole world. On August 31, 1997, the Queen of Hearts was killed at the side of her then partner Dodi Al-Fayed (42, † 1997) in a car accident in Paris. Even decades later, there was speculation about the events of the night of death.

In the recently published podcast “The Last Days of Diana”, the British newspaper “Daily Mail” recalls the day of the accident. Eyewitnesses who witnessed Diana’s last few hours also have their say.

Shortly after midnight, Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed left the Hotel Ritz in Paris on August 31. The hotel’s deputy head of security, Henri Paul (41, † 1997), is supposed to bring them to Dodi’s apartment. In the Pont D’Alma tunnel, Paul loses control of the car a short time later, the black Mercedes-Benz crashes into a tunnel pillar. Dodi Al-Fayed and Henri Paul are dead immediately. Princess Diana and her bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones (53) suffer serious injuries.

Fireman Xavier Gourmelon was one of the first to reach the scene of the accident. He provides assistance to Diana, who is sitting in the wreck. At the time, Gourmelon does not yet know who the young woman is. Little did he know then that he was about to witness Princess Diana’s last words *: “She spoke English and said, ‘Oh my God, what happened?’ I understood that and tried to calm her down. I held her hand. Then others took over for me. “ * 24royal.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
