If you have ever entered the PIN code more than 3 times, it is quite likely that you have already come across the PUK code . In fact, it tends to become a scary step for many users, especially when we don’t remember what it is and how to get it.
Luckily, if you have never lost your memory and you have always remembered the PIN code with which you start your mobile phone, it is very likely that you do not even know anything about what we are talking about.
But you have most likely been using a mobile phone for quite a few years. And it is normal that, at some point or other, you have forgotten the PIN code, so after having entered it up to three times, the system suddenly told you that you should enter the one known as the PUK code.
What is the PUK code?
The PUK code , or personal unlocking key , consists of a security element that all modern SIM cards contain, and that we can find on both mobile phones and tablets.
In fact, it is a code that is usually requested by the device when we have entered the PIN code incorrectly three times , which will cause the SIM card to be blocked .
When this happens, we need the PUK code to proceed to unblock it , which will only happen when we enter the correct code.
Again, if we make the mistake of entering it incorrectly several times (usually ten times) it can end up disabling the SIM card. Hence, it is essential to remain calm and, instead of entering the code quickly, stop for a moment, sit in front of the device and add it calmly, without making mistakes.
How to find out the PUK code of our SIM card
When we contract the services of a telephone operator, the company gives us our SIM card, in a small package where both the PIN code and the PUK code are written. In this way, once placed on our mobile phone or tablet, we can start using it once we have entered the PIN code.
Of course, as in most cases it tends to be a somewhat difficult number to memorize, so it is best to change it to a number that is easier for us to memorize.
In case you have that plastic card from which the SIM was extracted, you will find the PUK code, which corresponds to a total of 8 digits.
If you don’t have it, things get complicated. Although, luckily, today it is perfectly possible to obtain the PUK code by contacting the mobile telephone operator.
A simple option is to log into our account , on the mobile operator’s website, and find the place where we can check our PUK code.
If it is not possible to access the website, or we do not have an account because we have not created it yet, then the next option available is to call our mobile phone operator (usually the customer service phone number), in order to request our PUK code.
In most cases, the most normal thing is that the person who attends us asks us some personal information in order to confirm our identity (generally our name, date of birth, address, etc.); finally, once confirmed, it will provide us with our PUK code.
However, remember that although it is possible to modify the PIN code for one that we remember more easily, this cannot be done with the PUK code, which will always be the same. Therefore, it is essential to write it down in a safe place so as not to lose it. In this way, in case the PIN code is blocked again, we have the PUK code accessible at all times.
