Queen Elizabeth II – 70 years Queen: These are the highlights of the throne jubilee

Since September 2015, Queen Elizabeth II has been the longest reigning monarch in Great Britain’s history. Now she can celebrate 70 years on the throne.

Sandringham – The 95-year-old monarch was in Sandringham, the country estate in Norfolk, at the start of the big event. She traditionally spends the day of her accession there to commemorate the death of her father, who made her regent at the age of 25. For the first time without her husband Prince Philip (99, † 2021), the Queen quietly celebrated her platinum anniversary, which was embedded in highlights*.

Of course, a new photo of Queen Elizabeth II* could not be missing. The photo shows the regent at different times in her life with one of her famous red mailboxes. For the past 70 years, this accessory has accompanied Her Majesty and contained important documents keeping the Queen informed of events in Parliament, overseas and Commonwealth affairs, or requiring her royal signature.

As always, every detail is considered. Elizabeth II wore a lime green summery tweed shift dress by Angela Kelly, adorned with two diamond ivy leaf clasps given to her daughter by the Queen Mother for her 21st birthday. The picture frame in the background does not show Prince Philip*, but King George VI. (56, † 1952), four years before his death.

As retrospective as the picture is, the day before the British Queen had caused quite a stir in the here and now when she officially chose Duchess Camilla (74), her daughter-in-law as the future Queen* (Queen Consort) alongside her son Prince Charles (73) had expressed.

On the eve of her exceptional anniversary, Queen Elizabeth II opened Sandringham House’s ballroom to local charities and estate staff for a small reception, at which she cut a cake and chatted animatedly with familiar faces and representatives from local organisations.

This is followed in June by the weekend of celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, which London expects to see record-breaking attendances*. Events beginning on June 2 include Trooping the Color, the lighting of the Platinum Jubilee Beacons, a thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, the Derby at Epsom Downs, a live concert entitled “Platinum Party At The Palace, the Big Jubilee Lunch and the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.

The platinum anniversary should be gigantic*. After all, no regent has ever done what Queen Elizabeth did.
